What is it?
The Training and Work Experience Scheme (TWES) is a Work Permit scheme enabling you to gain skills and experience through work-based learning in the UK, building on your previous education and training.

Can I apply?
To apply you must be aged between 18 and 35 and at the beginning of your career.

You must have one of the following levels of qualification:

  • A relevant academic/vocational qualification of at least N/SVQ Level 3 or equivalent; this will usually be a university degree in the subject. Students should have finished at least the second year of the university degree course in the subject.

OR

  • At least 12 months previous relevant experience at N/SVQ level 3 to enable you to benefit from a work experience programme.  Please note that this means working at a supervisory level in the workplace, supervising staff and controlling resources.

OR

  • Be a student studying at a college overseas for a qualification relevant to the proposed work experience who has reached a level of study at or above N/SVQ Level 3.

How long can I work for?
TWES permits are normally issued for 12 months but if there is a special need or requirement of the work experience programme, then it can be extended to a maximum period of 2 years.

PLEASE NOTE: The TWES cannot be changed to any other type of work permit and is issued for a named employer.  You may only work for that employer.  You must intend to return home at the end of the period the TWES issued for otherwise your permit or visa may be refused.
